Do You Remember...NDCCSA Summer Soccer Camps?

Every year, starting in 1974, from early June until the first week in July, the NDCCSA would host a summer soccer camp (get your replica camp shirt here!). I don't know when the league stopped running the camps, but I DO remember that they were held at ED Walker Middle School for a while (across the creek from Jamestown Park where league games were played). Bob Ridley was camp director for as long as I can remember. The coaches were members of the NASL Dallas Tornado.

Each group of 12 to 15 kids would be given a different colored shirt to wear during training and at the end of each day there would be short-sided scrimmages. If you attended the camp for several years you'd have a collection of shirts, which was pretty cool. I don't know if anyone ever got every single color and I don't really know how many colors there were. My memory was there were at least 6 or 7 colors, with white with red print being one of them, as evidenced by the picture above. I can name several of the kids in the picture not the least of whom being David Fuess (second row on the far right) who would go on to be the placekicker for Tulsa football.

That's Freddie Garcia coaching us that summer. He played 7 seasons with the Dallas Tornado and then played on Sunday league teams in Dallas.
